bazaar vendor - tony howson

Tony Howson has collected books, comics, magazines, periodicals and memorabilia for over 30 years.

The unprepared viewer is left a little speechless by the quantity of first edition novels, complete comic series, pristine pulp fiction and magazines from as far back as the 1920’s in his collection.

He explains the appeal of comics in particular, which make up a bulk of his collection – “There is something special and quite personal about the look and even feel of a favourite comic. A comic is not just a swatch of folded paper printed with pictures; it summons up the very age and moment that it was first read.”

“Comics continue to enjoy an ongoing and surprisingly broad reaching appeal. Some of the biggest collectors of comics, you’ll never see – there is a grey army of professionals out there, doctors, lawyers and bankers, sitting reading comics.”

Tony will be at the Reservoir Bazaar every Saturday.
